Join nowThe MSV Focus-HEX Soft is a copolyester-based monofilament string made in Germany that features a hexagonal cross-section (as the word HEX suggests).
The Focus-HEX Soft is available in white, black, red, yellow and sky blue color and in 1.15, 1.20, 1.25 and 1.30 mm gauges.
The price for a 12-meter set is about 7.90 euros and for a 200-meter reel about 79.00 euros. The prices indicated are those displayed on the MSV website.
The MSV Focus-HEX Soft offers different gauges to satisfy different categories of tennis players and adapt to numerous types of string patterns, while remaining in all its variants a monofilament intended for a competitive audience.
The main features shared by all strings’ versions are definitely the control and the spin.
The progressive plasticization of the string gives the player maximum feeling of control during the rallies, especially when playing with enough spin.
Access to the spin is immediate and allows the generation of very heavy shots. The snapback effect, enabled by the hexagonal cross-section of the string which reduces friction on impact by favoring the sliding of the verticals on the horizontals, is very good, helping increase the rotation of the ball.
Also good is the power generated (especially in the smaller gauges) which allows the execution of deep but controlled balls.
The lifespan of the string is average for the category, about 10 hours of play (a couple of hours more for the larger gauges).
The Focus-HEX Soft is not very elastic (you can see it right away from the traction in the machine) nor very comfortable, and to make the most of it it needs to be stressed in the right way.
These characteristics, together with a rather high average stiffness (about 1 kg / mm), make it less appealing to non-competitive players.
Don't be fooled by the word "Soft" in the name... this Focus-HEX is not for everyone but rather mainly for competitive players.
The different gauges available make the string suitable for different string patterns (smaller gauges for dense patterns and bigger gauges for open patterns), but in our opinion it works best on profiled frames with a large head size and an open string pattern (for example, gauge 1.25 or 1.30 on Babolat Pure Drive) as per field tests.
That being said, when strung at low tensions (under 20kg) it can also be used by a more “amateur” audience looking for “pro” sensations.

The MSV Focus-HEX Soft is a monofilament string with strong control and spin characteristics intended for competitive audiences.
The several gauges available make the string suitable for different string patterns and, depending on the tension it is strung at, it can satisfy the needs of several categories of tennis players.
Good quality/price ratio!
Thank you to MSV Tennis for providing the strings we used in our tests.
